So my day started with my cat leaving some of his liquid love on me. Headed down to Chinatown for a recording for an art project and what a worthy trip it was despite the heat.
Got lost and wandered around the traditional narrow streets and to my surprise, found a gay flag along the shop houses. Either they don't know what the flag represents or hopefully a sign of changing mindsets.
It was my first time in a recording studio so all was unfamiliar to me. Hearing myself that crystal clear always makes me feel so awkward, but the experience was good nonetheless. Met Shaz after for lunch at a coffeeshop, stall owners there were SO polite and friendly. Why aren't all of them like that?
My yummy mee siam and her nasi padang.
She felt the need to do that.
Something that caught my eye before we left the coffeeshop. Beer-cap-decorated grounds? Cute.
I love this MRT station!
Cobblers peppered Chinatown. I love how there are still such traditional workers around who can appreciate simplicity. They might not receive big bucks and yet are so dedicated to their work.
One of the malls gave us such Genting vibes. So after food and looking around, we began our fabric hunt! Shop owners there were mostly elderly and so patient and adorable.
One of the beautiful fabrics we found which were for sale at $4 for a yard. Of course I splurged at this shop.
Midway hunt Shaz gave me impact sweets in a packet(!!!) There was five in a packet. I was amazed. Where on earth would they sell as such?
Then we came across this shop which had decorative buttons/threads/buttons/intricate ribbons and such. Endless supply of everything tiny and enchanting. Squeal worthy upon entry.
(New ideas for room)
Came across this burlesque/cabaret/broadway-like store which blinded us with sequins, masks, glitter and bely-dancer like apparels. I think this shop only applies to ge tai dancers though. Or halloween.
Last came the best store of the day.
Shaz scavenging for a good piece.
Owned by Edward & Ann. As you can see from the contents of the interior, this place was legit with items from the 'grandmother' period'. All items were collected from him from all over the world over time and created by them themselves. Amazing artistry.
More pictures of the streets.. and then came The Tin Tin Shop.
What a pricey store.
When I read "World's Largest Coin" I looked inside the circle for the coin and then Shaz told me the entire thing was THE coin. I don't want to know what was considered big notes then, then.
Absolutely love how that building with the Chinese mask stood out from the streets.
No offence to any nonyas but this statue just caught my attention in all the wrong ways.
And of course, the best fabric of today.
Met Fa for dinner @ Little India to end the day. So happy with my little finds and purchases. Beautiful day:-)
